Let’s talk, heart to heart. Not about what you should do, or what everyone else expects: but about you.
Stop for a moment and ask yourself: What am I really chasing, and why am I chasing it?
Sometimes we feel the urge to move faster, get more, prove we’ve made it. Life can feel like a race we can’t stop running.
I remember driving past a car dealership one day and spotting a black four-door Porsche sitting out front. For a moment, I imagined pulling into my driveway in that car: the looks, the nods, the sense of arrival. I didn’t just want it for the performance; I wanted it because I thought it would prove something. I thought it would make me look successful, maybe even important.
But if I’m keeping it real… who was I really trying to impress?
I’m not saying you shouldn’t want nice things, work hard, or enjoy life. I’m saying it’s worth asking: Are these things truly enough, or do they only give a quick high that fades, leaving your heart still longing?
Jesus reminds us: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). God isn’t against you working hard or enjoying life, He’s inviting you to put Him first so that what you chase actually satisfies.
King Solomon, who had more wealth, power, and pleasure than most of us could imagine, looked back on it all and called it “meaningless, a chasing after the wind”(Ecclesiastes 2:11).
All his riches and achievements couldn’t fill the emptiness of a life without God.
So let me ask again: What are you chasing? Is it leading you closer to the life God created you for, or pulling you further away?
The Bible shows us a different kind of running. Instead of sprinting after things just to prove our worth or gain approval, we’re called to “pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace”(2 Timothy 2:22). These are the things that last. These are the things that shape who we become.
And here’s a Scripture to guide you: “Run with endurance the race set before you, keeping your eyes on Jesus” (Hebrews 12:1-2).
Stop chasing things that don’t last. God is calling you to a life that changes you, shapes your future, and fills the emptiness only He can satisfy.
I’m not here to tell you what to do. I’m inviting you to slow down and ask yourself: What am I chasing? Does it bring me peace, or does it drain me?
If what you’re chasing isn’t leading you to peace… if it keeps you up at night, drains your joy, or makes you feel like you’re never enough… maybe it’s time to stop running. Or at least start running in a different direction.
God isn’t waiting for you to fail. He is calling you to a pursuit that fills your soul, shapes your destiny, and aligns your life with His perfect plan. He’s standing with open arms, saying, “I’ve got more for you. Come chase Me instead.” Not because He wants to take anything from you, but because He knows the things you’re chasing will never fill the space He designed for Himself.
So take a moment. Breathe. Lay it all down. Say, “God, I’ve been running hard, but I think I’ve been running in the wrong direction.”
And that’s okay. Now you know. Now you can turn. Now you can shift the chase, because what you chase shapes who you become. Chase God first, and everything else in your life will begin to fall into the place He designed for you.
Take a deep breath right now. Pause. Look at your life and your heart. What have you been chasing, and why? Ask God to show you whether your pursuits are bringing fulfillment or just busyness. Then take one small step today to put Him first, so that everything else you chase in life becomes meaningful, joyful, and aligned with His purpose.
Pray With Me
Lord, help me stop running after things for the wrong reasons. Teach me to chase You first, so that the good things I pursue: my work, my family, my goals, bring joy and purpose, not just busyness or validation. Align my heart with You, and let my life reflect Your plan above all else. In Jesus name, Amen.
