The Other Side of Fear

ree
What if the only thing standing between you and what God called you to do… is fear?

This blog is about learning to trust God more than your doubts, and stepping into faith, even when you’re scared.

Years ago, I was talking with a friend about life. Nothing deep, just two people sharing dreams and wondering if we’d ever make a difference in the world. I was still learning who I was and what it meant to walk with God after my baptism.

Then in the middle of that conversation, he looked at me and asked a question I’ll never forget “What would you do if you were not afraid?”

At first, I laughed it off. I didn’t know how to answer, so I shrugged and said, “I don’t know.” But later that night, when everything was quiet and it was just me and God, that question found its way back to my heart. And I could feel Him asking me too: What would you do if you trusted Me more than your fear?

That question began to reveal things about me I hadn’t noticed before. Because somewhere along the way, fear had become too familiar, quietly shaping my choices more than faith ever did.

Like most people, I had dreams, ideas, and passions burning inside me. But fear has a way of saying, “Not yet. Not now. Not you.” And sometimes, we listen. If we’re honest, all of us have fallen prey to fear at least once in our lives.

The Bible says in Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Faith and fear both deal with things we can’t see. Fear focuses on what could go wrong, but faith trusts God to work it all out.

God often calls us into the unknown, not to scare us, but to teach us to trust Him. Abraham knew that. God told him to leave everything familiar, with nothing but a promise. And Abraham stepped forward anyway. That’s the kind of trust God wants from us.

Fear will always try to make us stay where it feels safe. But faith says, “Step out. I am with you.”

Maybe that’s where you are right now. You feel a pull toward something new: a dream, a calling, a step of faith. But fear keeps telling you that you’re not ready.

So you wait. You tell yourself it’s not the right time, or that someone else could do it better. And before you know it, you’re standing still, watching life pass by… when deep down, you know it’s never been about timing or talent. It’s always been about fear.

Some of us have been holding back, too afraid to step into the life we were meant to live or use the gifts that could make a difference in the world. Some of us have talents, ideas, and stories that could inspire and heal, but we’ve buried them away under a pile of “what-ifs.”

Fear doesn’t make you weak, and courage doesn’t mean you feel no fear. Courage is moving forward anyway.

Moses was afraid. Esther was afraid. Ezekiel was afraid. Mary was afraid. And still, they said yes. And God met them right where they were.

That’s what faith really looks like: trusting God even when you can’t see the full picture, taking the next step even when fear is trying to get your attention.

So I’ll ask you the same question my friend asked me:
What would you do if you were not afraid?
What dream would you finally chase?
What step would you finally take?
What gift would you finally share with the world.. the one God put in your heart for His glory.

Fear might still try to speak louder than faith. Doubt might try to sneak in. But remember this: God hasn’t given you a spirit of fear. He’s given you power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).

Maybe today, God is telling you what He told me: “Stop letting fear decide your path. Step out, and watch Me make a way.”

Because on the other side of fear, there is life. There is purpose. There is freedom. There is you: fully alive, walking in exactly what God created you to do.

Pray With Me

Father God,
Thank You for reminding me that fear doesn’t define me, You do. When doubt tries to hold me back, remind me that You go before me. When I feel small, fill me with courage to take the next step. Even when I can’t see the whole path, help me trust that You already have. Today, I choose faith over fear. I choose to walk with You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
