Answer the Call

Writer: Ron HaleRon Hale
It’s important to have good people in your corner. Not a crowd, not a thousand acquaintances, but true friends—the kind who make you better, who push you, challenge you, and refuse to let you settle for less than God’s best. These are the people who won’t let you sit in self-pity, who don’t agree with everything you say just to keep the peace. They hold you accountable, speak truth in love, and show up when it matters most. I can name the few people in my life who fit that description—friends who would drop everything, no questions asked. And they know exactly who they are.

But let me ask you: Can you name two people right now who would do the same for you? If you called them at 3 a.m., would they answer? If you needed them in another state, another country, would they get on a plane? Now, let’s flip that. Would you do the same for them?

Now, let’s take this deeper. How many times has Jesus called you, and you answered? Be honest. For me, the answer wasn’t always yes. There were times I ignored His voice, put Him on hold, or silenced Him altogether. Yet, He kept calling. I was quick to answer calls from the wrong people—people who meant harm, who led me further from where God wanted me to be. Why is it so easy to entertain distractions, yet so hard to surrender to the One who gave everything for us?

I used to run from God like Jonah, but thankfully, He didn’t have to send a great fish to swallow me whole. Life itself became my storm. The more I resisted Him, the harder things became. I wanted to be the captain of my own ship, steering my own course. But here’s the truth: God’s way is always greater than our own. He asks us to surrender, not to take something from us, but to give us something far better. The Bible says, “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1).

When we try to take control, we limit ourselves. But when we trust God, He does the impossible. When the storm raged around the disciples, Jesus calmed the sea (Mark 4:39). When thousands were hungry, He multiplied five loaves and two fish (Matthew 14:13-21). If He did it then, how much more will He do for you when you say yes to His call?

Right now, Jesus is calling. Calling you out of the pain, the fear, the confusion. Calling you out of that dark place. Will you answer? Take a chance on Him. Watch how He transforms your life.

The greatest relationship you will ever have, the only one you can count on 100% of the time, is with God. Don’t take my word for it—try Him. My life changed the moment I surrendered. Do I have it all together? No. But I’ve never known a love greater than His. Whatever you’re facing, God is the answer. Answer the call.

Pray with Me:

Heavenly Father,
I come before You with an open heart. I surrender my plans, my fears, my need for control. Forgive me for the times I ignored Your voice, for the moments I chose my way over Yours. Lord, I say yes to You today. Help me to trust You fully, to follow where You lead, and to embrace the life You have prepared for me. Thank You for Your unending grace and love.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
