It’s been nearly a week since my last blog, and I’m sure some of you have wondered what was going on. Why hadn’t I sent out my regular posts? I took a week off to dedicate myself to completing my latest book, and I’m happy to announce that it’s finished and ready to be published—thank God!
Sometimes, we have to set things aside to focus on what God has placed in our hearts. That brings me to today’s message. Too often, we pour our time and energy into everything and everyone else, making them a priority while treating our own calling as an afterthought. But let me ask you this—when was the last time you truly invested in yourself? When was the last time you nurtured the gift God placed inside you?
For me, these past seven days were an investment. I made a commitment to finish my book before writing another blog. And let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. I love writing these blogs. I love encouraging people and pouring into others. But I was reminded of something my daughter said when she was just eight years old.
One day, she saw me stop everything I was doing to help someone else with their project. Later, she looked at me with innocent but wise eyes and asked, “Dad, why do you always help everyone with their stuff when you have your own stuff to do? Nobody helps you with your stuff, so maybe you should stop helping all the time and just work on your stuff.”
Her words hit me hard. She was right. Sometimes, we need to give ourselves the same dedication that we so freely give to others. And that’s not selfish—that’s stewardship. God has entrusted you with gifts, talents, and dreams. If you keep putting them on hold, how can you fully walk in the purpose He has for you?
Each of us has a unique gift that, when nurtured, brings fulfillment, joy, and purpose. More than that, it becomes a blessing to others and draws people closer to God. Romans 12:6 reminds us, “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.” Your gift isn’t just for you—it’s meant to impact lives. But it can only do that if you invest in it.
For me, writing is my calling. Whether it’s refining my manuscript, working with an editor, or ensuring every word carries purpose—I pour into this gift because I know God has called me to it. And having a trusted friend design my book covers is just another way God surrounds me with people who help bring the vision to life.
Having a strong support system matters. When you’re running on empty, you need people in your life who will uplift you, encourage you, and remind you why you started. But even if no one else understands your journey, God does. He is your greatest source of strength and wisdom.
So, what about you? What’s the gift you’ve been putting on hold? What’s the dream God placed in your heart that you keep pushing aside? Maybe it’s your job, your family, or other responsibilities. And while those things are important, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Investing in yourself doesn’t mean neglecting others—it means ensuring you’re equipped to give them your best.
1 Timothy 4:14 says, “Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.” God has given you something special—something the world needs. Maybe it’s singing, designing, mentoring youth, starting a business, or writing. Whatever it is, it’s time to stop making excuses and start making room for what God has placed inside you.
This life is not a dress rehearsal—there’s no coming back for a do-over. The time to step into your calling is now. Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” God has been calling you—are you ready to answer?
If this spoke to you, I challenge you to take one step today toward investing in yourself and your God-given gift. Whether it’s setting aside time to plan, taking a class, or simply praying for direction—do something that moves you closer to your purpose.
Let’s pray together:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gifts and dreams You’ve placed inside me. Forgive me for the times I’ve put them aside and made everything else a priority over the purpose You’ve given me. Today, I choose to invest in the calling You have placed on my life. Give me courage when I’m afraid, strength when I’m weary, and clarity when I’m unsure. Surround me with people who will support and encourage me. Let everything I do bring glory to You and draw others closer to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
It’s time. Invest in yourself. Invest in the gift God has given you. The world is waiting.
