When was the last time you made a choice that truly came from God and not from everyone else’s opinions, expectations or advice? Not from family expectations, not from friends, not from social media, not from the voices that always say, “If I were you…” I mean a choice that came from that place inside you where only God speaks.
Let’s keep it real. Sometimes the hardest person to believe in is ourselves. We see the best in everybody else… their dreams, their calling, their talents… but when it comes to us, doubt shows up. We talk ourselves out of what God already talked us into, wondering if He picked the wrong person. And if you’re anything like me, maybe you’ve spent too much time in the rearview mirror, always checking behind you, making sure you didn’t miss a turn or mess something up along the way.
I told myself I was being careful, but the truth was fear dressed up as caution... keeping me in places God had already said, “It's time to move."
I remember standing in front of something God was asking me to do… something that made zero sense to me. I felt His nudge, but I also saw every possible reason it might fall apart. Every “what if.” Every reason someone else would be better for the job. It felt like I was surrounded by every voice except God’s.
Yet, I couldn’t escape God's whisper, saying, “This isn’t about what you think you can do. It’s about what I’ve already placed inside you.”
So even though I was shaking, even though doubt was loud, one day… I did it. I finally stepped out. Not because I suddenly felt courageous, but because I chose to trust God more than I trusted my fear. And that one yes became the moment God shifted my whole life.
And I believe He can do the same for you.
The truth is, many of us are still holding on to things God asked us to release a long time ago. A job. A relationship. A habit. A belief about ourselves that never came from Him. We keep asking God for something new, but our hands are still gripping what feels familiar. God won’t force His blessings into hands that refuse to let go.
Sometimes the only thing standing between you and the next chapter is the courage to close the one that no longer leads anywhere.
The Bible says, “Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
Notice it doesn’t say God is only with you when everything makes sense. He’s with you in the unknown. He’s with you in the “Lord, I hope this works.” He’s with you in the “I’m trusting You because I cannot trust myself right now.” And if God has moved on from a place, you can trust that following Him will always lead to better.
Here’s something it took me a long time to understand: when you say yes to what God is calling you to do, you’re not betting on yourself. You’re placing your faith in the One who created you, who prepared your steps before you were born, and who sees something in you that fear has tried to hide.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
Faith doesn’t always show you the whole road. Sometimes it only reveals the next step. And often that step is simply saying yes… yes to healing, yes to growing, yes to becoming who God called you to be instead of who people expect you to be. Listen, the wrong voices can keep you stuck for years, but the right voice… God’s voice, can shift your whole life in a moment.
When God removes something from your life, He isn’t trying to hurt you. He’s preparing room for what’s next.
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” (Isaiah 43:18–19)
Some of us can’t see the new thing because we’re still staring at the old. It’s like running on a hamster wheel… moving hard, pushing fast, doing everything we know to do, yet ending up in the same place every time. That’s what it feels like when God is calling you forward but you’re still holding on to what’s behind you.
Your life can shift with one decision. That’s what happened for me. The day I stopped letting fear and other people define me, the day I said yes to what God placed inside me, everything changed.
And I believe someone reading this is standing right there… one decision away from your breakthrough. You feel afraid. You feel uncertain. But something in you knows God is calling you forward. This next step may stretch you, but it will also free you.
God isn’t asking you to be fearless. He’s asking you to trust Him enough to move anyway.
And when you do, you’ll look back and realize that you weren’t relying on your own power, you were trusting His plan, His timing, and His promise.
Let this truth stay close to you… God has never lost a battle… which means when you walk with Him, you won’t lose either.
Why not you? Trust God more than your fear… because He’s already equipped you, called you, and placed courage inside you that the world cannot take away.
Pray with me
Father God,
I thank You for seeing me, even when I feel unseen or afraid. Help me trust You with the steps I’ve been holding back. Fill me with courage when fear tries to take over, and remind me that You go before me. Teach me to follow Your voice above all others, to step fully into the purpose You’ve planted in me, and to walk boldly into the life You’ve prepared. I choose to trust You completely, without hesitation.
