The Leap That Changed Everything

Writer: Ron HaleRon Hale
What if I told you that God is trying to get your attention? Would you believe me? Do you know that He loves you deeply and longs for a relationship with you? And if you already walk with Him, He desires to draw you even closer.

I remember when my daughter was five years old. She used to stand on the second step from the bottom of the stairs while I stood in front of her with my arms stretched out, saying, Jump." But I could see the hesitation in her eyes. She was afraid. So instead of pushing, I gently told her, Come closer," encouraging her to step down to the first step before jumping. And she did—not because she fully trusted me, but because the distance seemed smaller, safer.

Over time, she grew bolder. One step turned into two, then three, then four. And each time, she learned that no matter how far she jumped, I would catch her.

This is exactly what God desires for us. He wants us to trust Him—not just with the easy steps but with the ones that scare us. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5). He is calling you to take a leap of faith, to surrender control, to stop hesitating. I know it feels terrifying at first—after all, you've been the one calling the shots in your life. But where has that led you?

Before I surrendered my life to Christ, I thought I had it all figured out. On the outside, I looked put together, but on the inside, there was a void—an emptiness I tried to ignore, cover up, or fill with temporary things. But nothing worked.

Because the truth is, only God can fill the void inside of us. No person, no achievement, no possession, no amount of success can satisfy that deep longing in your soul. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God" (Psalm 42:2).

I didn’t see it at the time, but I was drifting, lost in distractions, unaware that God was reaching out to me over and over again. He sent people—one, two, sometimes three—to get my attention. But I ignored the signs. I chalked everything up to coincidence, never realizing that God was calling me to something greater. Until one day, I couldn't ignore Him anymore.

Maybe you’ve felt that pull too—waking up in the middle of the night, burdened by thoughts you can’t shake. Maybe you’ve felt an emptiness, a nudge, a whisper in your spirit. That isn’t a coincidence. That is God. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in" (Revelation 3:20).

When I finally surrendered, God didn’t reject me for my brokenness. He didn’t turn me away because of my past mistakes. Instead, He embraced me, cleaned me up, and showed me a love unlike anything I had ever known. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18).

Like my daughter standing on the stairs, unsure whether to trust, I had to take that first leap of faith. And just like I caught her every time, God caught me.

And He will catch you too.

I am a living testimony of God’s goodness. Everything I am today is because of Him. So, I’m telling you this: God is calling you. Will you answer?

Maybe He has already started removing people or things from your life to get your attention. Maybe He’s stirring something inside of you that you can’t ignore. Don’t wait any longer.

Saying "Yes" to God doesn’t mean you’ll never stumble. It doesn’t mean you’ll always get it right. But it does mean that when you fall, He will pick you up. "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with His hand" (Psalm 37:23-24).

So if you’ve been hesitant—if you’ve been waiting for the perfect moment—this is it. Say yes to Him today. Trust Him with your life, your future, your everything.

Because just like I stood at the bottom of those stairs, arms open wide, God is standing before you now, waiting.

Take the leap.

Heavenly Father,
I come before You right now, lifting up every person reading these words. Lord, You know their hearts. You know their struggles, their fears, and the burdens they carry. Father, I ask that You touch them in a way that only You can. Let them feel Your love, Your peace, and Your presence in their lives.

For those who don’t know You yet, Lord, I pray that today will be the day they say yes to You. That they surrender their worries, their doubts, and their plans into Your hands. That they take the leap of faith, knowing that You will catch them.

For those who already walk with You but feel distant, remind them that You have never left. That You are always near, always waiting, always calling them back.

Thank You for Your unfailing love. Thank You for Your grace that meets us right where we are. And thank You for never giving up on us.

I pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
