It's October 17, 2024, and here I am, sitting with a cup of Peet’s coffee, asking myself: Where did the year go? In just a few months, we’ll step into 2025. Time is flying—and that’s a wake-up call.
I think back to when I was 10 years old. I told myself I’d become a history professor, teaching at the collegiate level. I knew I had a gift for teaching, and I was sure it would be my way of giving back. But just as quickly, I imagined playing for the Boston Celtics, dreaming of a future in the NBA. That dream? It disappeared. But why?
Looking back now, I realize that maybe God had different plans for me. Proverbs 16:1 says: “We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right answer.” Here’s my question for you: Are you truly trusting God with your life? Or are you just drifting through, waiting for something to change?
It’s time to wake up. This is your moment of reckoning.
What did you dream of becoming when you were younger? A doctor? Lawyer? Teacher? Business owner? Coach? Are you living out that dream today—or have you settled into a life of compromise, telling yourself that "it’s too late" or "too hard"? Are you working a job that gives you no satisfaction, where you simply go through the motions?
If that’s you, it’s time to stop lying to yourself. Time is moving, and if you don’t take control of your life now, you never will. Another year will come and go, and you’ll find yourself still stuck, watching your dreams fade.
Ask yourself: Why didn’t I pursue what I was passionate about? Maybe you listened to the wrong voices—voices that told you to “be realistic,” or that you weren’t good enough. Maybe fear held you back. But here’s the truth: You are responsible for your life, and what you do with it from this moment forward. No one else can live your dream for you.
The dreams you had—whether to be a doctor, a lawyer, a teacher, a business owner, or a coach—they’re still alive. They haven’t died; they’ve just been waiting for you. They’ve been delayed, but they are not denied.
So stop sitting on the sidelines of your own life. Get up. Take control. If you want to reignite your passion, it starts with one decision: to take action. Don’t wait for the “right moment.” Don’t wait for permission. Don’t wait for someone else to see your potential. The only permission you need is your own.
Whatever you want to be, whatever life you’ve dreamed of, it’s still within your reach. But it’s not going to happen by accident. You have to decide today. Because tomorrow, and the next day, aren’t guaranteed. They belong to God, not to us. What you do have is today—right now, this moment—and what you choose to do with it is what will define your life.
Life doesn’t stop until you do. And as long as you’re breathing, greatness is still within your grasp. The only thing standing between you and the life you’ve always wanted is you. You’re the one who decides whether you will move forward or stay stuck.
So today, choose to step into the life you were destined for. Choose to live with purpose.
